Applied Nanoscience Inc. was founded in June 2004 to commercialize an innovative and proprietary
Nanoparticle – Enhanced – Filtration - Technology platform (NEFT).

The Company currently owns an extensive patent portfolio for this technology platform offering both protection and prevention from harmful pathogens spreading amongst humans in many of the most heavily populated regions of the world (see Intellectual Property tab). This technology platform combines any type of nanoparticle that is known or engineered to be capable of destroying viruses, bacteria, fungi or toxins with one or more filters. If desired, any filter utilized in the NEFT platform may be either hydrophobic or hydrophilic, but it is not necessary that any such filter be either hydrophobic or hydrophilic. The filter media can be coated with nanoparticles, or have nanoparticles impregnated into an existing filter to target specific viruses, harmful bacteria and fungi in ambient air. The nanoparticles can be in the form of either a powder or a pellet. When pellets are employed, the hydrophobic or hydrophilic filter is placed adjacent to the nanoparticles.

In concert, Applied Nanoscience Inc has developed a proprietary antimicrobial silver nanoparticle formulation (NanoFense) which has demonstrated remarkable efficacy against a broad spectrum of bacteria, virus, and fungi. The formulation acts as a destructive adsorbent when applied or “coated” on existing filter media and has been validated to deliver this performance at multiple independent BSL-3 laboratories. Highly successful “real-world” testing results have been achieved against the H9N2 avian influenza simulant, Human Influenza virus A, Staphylococcus aureus including the viral MRSA strain, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and “H”-flu. Applied Nanoscience believes that this U.S. patented formulation can be customized for application to virtually any existing air filtration system.

We have evolved the validation of our NanoFense formulation from suspension time-kill studies to actual aerosolized pathogen testing against aged, coated filter media samples. We are now positioned to have substantive discussions with established companies to execute licensing agreements in the growing air filtration industry. This market’s growth rate is influenced by a variety of factors to include the growing concerns of infectious disease outbreaks such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), the Avian Bird Flu, or most recently the swine influenza strain A/H1N1. The world market for improved air filtration is expected to increase due to continued expansion of both commercial and institutional markets, as well as increases in prices due to demand for higher performance products.

We believe that many potential applications for the NEFT platform exist from modern jetliners with a mix of fresh and recirculated air which can be veritable incubators of potential disease to room air purifiers which can potentially safeguard families in the event of a viral pandemic. Application of our NanoFense “coating” to the filter media significantly reduces or eradicates the growth of such dangerous pathogens. Licensure of the NEFT platform customized for specific applications will initiate advancement and provide competitive advantage to companies in most major consumer markets.

Applied Nanoscience Inc. is a marketer and developer of innovative nanotechnology-based air filtration products specifically targeted to eradicate bacteria, virus and fungi and is the owner of NEFT (Nanoparticle - Enhanced - Filtration - Technology), a broad platform with significant application potential in consumer and industrial market segments geared to reducing the transmission of infectious pathogens.
